A crew investigating a series of potholes in Oviedo, Fla., last week discovered an alligator hanging out in the stormwater pipes under the road.
A stormwater crew was investigating the potholes on Lockwood Boulevard near Riverside Park on May 5 when they deployed a four-wheeled robot equipped with a camera to film the pipes under the road.
The video shared by the City of Oviedo shows a 5-foot alligator stepping back away from the robot at first.
“At first, they thought it was a toad and in the video, you see two little glowing eyes until you get closer,” the city wrote alongside the video on Facebook. The operators move the robot forward again and the alligator backs away, until the robot taps it.
The alligator quickly turns around, showing its full size, and runs away from the robot. Operators realized it was an alligator and continued following it. The robot chased the alligator for about 340 feet before it became stuck and the alligator continued on.
“Just another reason not to go wandering down into the Stormwater pipes,” the city said. “Thank goodness our crews have a robot.”
