Blaze The Dog, Shot By Keyport Police During Disputed Circumstances, Recovers At NJ Animal Hospital

A New Jersey woman says a neighbors “vendetta” and false report led local authorities to shoot her dog, which had escaped her property, and file charges against her. Alexyss Ferraras pit bull, Blaze, was treated at an animal hospital. A video shared by Ferrara shows Blaze at the animal hospital with one front leg bandaged and the other appearing limp. He can be seen eating food and getting pets. “Hes alive for a reason! Because hes a good boy,” Ferrara wrote alongside the video on Facebook. According to the Keyport Police Department, a 911 caller reported a dog had been aggressive toward a woman and another dog on Oct. 22. Body-worn camera video released by the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office shows a responding officer shooting and injuring Blaze, who runs away whimpering. The prosecutors office charged the dogs owners, Ferrara, 29, and Angel Velez Jr, 34, with possessing a dangerous dog and other violations related to the dogs behavior, per reports. Ferrara took to Facebook to dispute the claims, however. She said that she takes responsibility for her dog escaping the property, but that the alleged aggressive behavior toward a woman and her dog was a false report from a neighbor “who has a vendetta against me.” “A dog walks past the parking lot with its owner and Blaze does approach them. However it is not an aggressive greet at all. Its actually very polite, the woman walking pet blaze. Continued on with her walk with her dog in a calm pace,” Ferrara wrote. She also shared a neighbors home surveillance video that appears to support her account.
